Lighten your skin the natural way

Filipinas should never be shy of their ‘kayumanggi’ skin instead they should be proud of its rich color. However, skin color becomes uneven due to different internal and external factors.

Dark and dull skin can be brought about by pollution, overexposure to the sun, a medical condition, stress, dry skin, poor lifestyle practices, and prolonged use of chemical-based cosmetic products.

Your skin may not be perfect and uneven in color but you can do simple ways to make it better and healthier.

1. Limit your sweets

Your health is the number one factor why there are dark patches on the backside of your neck. This is due to the high sugar level present in your blood so make sure to limit your sugar intake.

2. Lemon

Lemons are rich in vitamin C which encourages new cell growth. They also have acidic property that can work as a natural bleaching agent for the skin. You can moist a cotton with lemon juice and apply it on the dark patch. Leave it on for 20 minutes then rinse with water. Do not forget to apply sunscreen on the treated area after.

3. Milk

The lactic acid in milk diminishes skin pigmentation and brightens complexion. Soak a lemon slice in 1/2 cup of whole milk for around 20 minutes. Apply the milk onto the dark area of your skin and leave it overnight. Wash the area in the morning.

4. Tomato and Avocado mixture

If you have both dry and oily skin, this mixture can neutralize the dark patch on your skin. Get the pulp of a small avocado, then mix a small tomato in the avocado pulp by mashing it. Apply this mixture on the dark patches on your skin and leave it for around 45 minutes, then rinse it with warm water.

5. Yogurt and Honey mixture

Yogurt is a rich source of lactic acid which diminishes skin pigmentation, while honey whitens and moisturizes the skin. Honey also contains antibacterial properties that help fade acne scars age spots. Just mix a tablespoon of yogurt and one or two teaspoons of honey. Apply it on the dark areas of the skin, leave for about 15-30 minutes then rinse with water.
