Things to avoid during the ‘Ghost Month’

Traditionally, Chinese consider the month of August as the ‘ghost month.’ It starts on August 14, 2015 up until September 12, 2015. The ‘ghost day’ will fall on August 28, 2015.

Dr. Anthony Fugoso said in an interview on DZMM’s ‘Pinoy Vibes’ that this festival is equivalent to ‘All Soul’s Day. The ghost month is assumed to convey more accidents and bad luck compared to other months of the year.

He also said that some activities must be avoided to stay lucky and safe during the ghost month. One of these is to avoid swimming as spirits tend to become fascinated to water.

He also advised to avoid new activities or dangerous sports. Challenging spirits and ghosts to talk and show themselves is a form of disrespect and therefore should be avoided.

Avoid getting married, starting a business or signing a contract during ghost month to avoid disputes. He also recommended postponing any medical procedure or repairs and construction. Repairs and construction produce noises that attract spirits.

He mentioned other activities to avoid: air or sea travel, emotional instability, and killing insects. He also advised drivers, especially women, to be careful while driving; and watch over children carefully.
